Iraq to see continued rain, cooler temperatures and mountain snow

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s General Authority for Meteorology said Monday that unstable weather will continue across the country after a wave of rain hit many areas since yesterday, with the heaviest showers recorded in northern governorates.

The authority said skies will range from overcast to partly cloudy, with chances of light to moderate rain accompanied by thunder. Rainfall is expected to intensify in northern regions and in eastern parts of central Iraq.

Mountain areas in Erbil and Duhok are forecast to see light snowfall, along with a chance of moderate to dense nighttime fog in parts of the north. The authority said temperatures will dip slightly in central and northern regions, with cooler conditions in the morning and at night, while southern and eastern areas will see moderate southeasterly winds. Winds in central and northern regions will be variable and mostly calm.

In the south, temperatures are expected to remain near yesterday’s levels, with mild daytime conditions and relatively cool weather, becoming colder over higher elevations.

Visibility is expected to range between 4 and 6 kilometers due to haze and rising humidity, dropping to 2–4 kilometers in areas of heavier rainfall and to below 1 kilometer in foggy zones at night.
