Al-Sudani, German ambassador discuss expanding bilateral cooperation

BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Tuesday received Germany’s new ambassador to Iraq, Daniel Krebber, and expressed hope that his appointment would contribute to “strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two friendly countries.”

In a statement from Sudani’s media office, the prime minister said Iraq remains committed to expanding its partnership with Germany, particularly in the fields of “security, migration, economic and investment cooperation, and climate change,” with an emphasis on “industry, technology, and energy.”

Al-Sudani told the ambassador that Iraq “is enjoying security and stability today.” He added that the recent parliamentary elections were conducted “smoothly and transparently,” describing them as evidence of democratic practice and public trust in the political process.

Statement from Al-Sudani’s media office:

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani received today, Tuesday, the new Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to Iraq, Mr. Daniel Krebber.

His Excellency welcomed the Ambassador and wished him success in his mission, expressing hope that his tenure would contribute to strengthening the ties of friendship and cooperation between the two friendly countries and expanding them across various sectors in support of sustainable development.

The Prime Minister affirmed Iraq’s commitment to continuing the enhancement of its partnership with Germany, particularly in the areas of security, migration, economic and investment cooperation, and climate change, with a focus on the sectors of industry, technology, and energy.

Prime Minister Al-Sudani noted that Iraq is enjoying security and stability today and is playing a pivotal and important role in the region. He added that the parliamentary elections, which were conducted smoothly and transparently, reflect the entrenchment of democratic practice, especially with the high level of public participation, a clear indication of the Iraqi people’s confidence in the political process.

The German Ambassador congratulated the Prime Minister on the successful conduct of the parliamentary elections. He praised His Excellency’s efforts in keeping Iraq away from regional conflict and crises, noting that a German economic delegation will visit Iraq next year to explore opportunities for enhancing cooperation and advancing development and prosperity.
