Kurdistan Region electricity ministry thanks residents for after Khor Mor attack cuts power
ERBIL — The Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Electricity on Friday thanked residents for their “patience and steadfastness” following a widespread power blackout triggered by a strike on the Khor Mor gas field.
In a statement, the ministry described the incident as “a terrorist attack targeting the people of the Kurdistan Region.” It said that in coordination with the Ministry of Natural Resources, security forces and field operator Dana Gas, authorities have “intensified efforts to restore production and return electricity to homes, stores and factories as quickly as possible.”
The strike, which hit a storage tank at the facility late Wednesday, prompted a full suspension of gas production and caused widespread outages across the Kurdistan Region.
Dana Gas confirmed that none of its employees were harmed in the attack.
The Khor Mor gas field supplies natural gas that fuels most of the Kurdistan Region’s electricity generating capacity.
Officials said technical teams and security forces are working to assess damage, restore normal production and ensure the safety of workers before resuming full operations.
