Sulaymaniyah electricity directorate to auction 13 Chavi company properties to recover debt

SULAYMANIYAH — The Sulaymaniyah General Electricity Directorate has announced the public auction of 13 properties registered to Chavi Company in an effort to recover over 3.58 billion Iraqi dinars ($2,531,561) in debt, according to an official notice issued by the directorate.

Chavi Company is linked to New Generation leader Shaswar Abdulwahid, who is currently in prison in a defamation case brought by former lawmaker Shadia Nawzad.

Shaswar Abdulwahid was arrested Aug. 12 at his home in Sulaymaniyah’s German Village neighborhood under a court-issued warrant. Earlier in September, a Sulaymaniyah court sentenced him to five months in prison.

The auction was initiated following a request by the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Minister of Electricity, who is seeking repayment of the electricity debt. The properties are located in Sulaymaniyah’s Malkandi and Dabashan areas.

Interested parties have been instructed to visit Sulaymaniyah Electricity Directorate and must deposit a legal guarantee amounting to 10% of the listed value of the properties, along with a national ID and proof of residence, to participate in the auction process.

The auction is scheduled to take place within 30 days from the date of the announcement, and will be held at the directorate’s headquarters.

In October, the Kurdistan Region’s Ministry of Finance and Economy sold 60 other properties belonging to Chavi Company through a similar public process. The assets, which include plots of land, hotels, cafeterias, tourist cabins and other properties, had previously been placed under seizure.
