Iranian Kurdish worker dies in fall from Sulaymaniyah high-rise
SULAYMANIYAH – A Kurdish worker from Iran died after falling from the 17th floor of a construction site in Sulaymaniyah on Tuesday. His death went unnoticed until the following morning, when his body was discovered and transferred to the Sulaymaniyah Forensic Medicine Department for investigation.
Osman Zindani, head of the Construction Workers Syndicate, told 964media that negligence led to the tragedy. “No one had checked on him, and his absence went unnoticed until today,” he said. “This morning, his body was found. He had fallen from the 17th floor of the Event Tower project while working.”
Zindani said authorities plan to visit the site to determine the circumstances of the fall. “Investigators will inspect the location to determine how the worker lost his life,” he said.
The victim was identified as Mohammed Zahir, originally from Iranian Kurdistan, though his exact hometown has not yet been confirmed. Officials said more details will be released after the investigation concludes.
According to the Construction Workers Syndicate, 70 construction workers have died across the Kurdistan Region and Kirkuk governorate so far this year, including one woman and 52 foreign workers—most from Iranian Kurdistan. In Sulaymaniyah alone, 23 workers have been killed on construction sites.
