Two-year-old girl drowns in stream near home in Erbil’s Harir subdistrict
ERBIL — A two-year-old girl drowned Thursday morning in a stream near her family’s home in a village within the Harir subdistrict of Shaqlawa, Erbil governorate, local health officials said.
Mohammed Amokayi, spokesperson for the Shaqlawa Health Directorate, told 964media that “at 11:10 a.m. on Thursday, November 23, 2025, the body of a two-year-old girl was brought to the emergency department of Harir Hospital.”
He said the child, who was from Ashkawt village in the Harir area, “fell into a nearby stream and drowned,” according to her family’s account.
Amokayi added that the stream “was not deep and is usually used for watering animals.” The child’s body was transferred to the Erbil forensic department for examination.
