Body of elderly Diyala man found in Kalar hotel room

KALAR — The body of an 84-year-old man was discovered Tuesday morning inside a hotel in the city center of Kalar, part of the Garmiyan Administration in Sulaymaniyah Governorate.

Rafiq Qadir, director of Shahid Hajar Emergency Hospital in Kalar, told 964media that the man had been dead for several days before being found. “This morning we were informed that the body of a man was found in one of Kalar’s hotels. The staff noticed a smell coming from the room, which led them to discover him,” Qadir said.

“The resident had been dead for three days. They didn’t know until this morning when they noticed the odor coming from his room,” he added.

Qadir said the cause of death has not yet been determined. The body was transferred to the forensic medical department in Kalar for examination.

The deceased was identified as an 84-year-old resident of Miqdadiyah, a city in Diyala Governorate.
