Conditions remains stable as meteorology authority denies temperature drop reports

BAGHDAD — The General Authority for Meteorology and Seismology said Sunday that Iraq continues to experience stable weather conditions with no indication of a sharp decline in temperatures, refuting reports circulating in media and on social media.

In its daily weather bulletin, the agency said the country is currently affected by a low-pressure trough moving from the Red Sea toward the upper layers of the atmosphere, resulting in stable and mild weather. Temperatures are expected to remain within seasonal averages, with slight variations between regions.

The authority added that western and southern governorates may experience variable winds from the southeast at moderate speeds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour, occasionally strengthening. Visibility will generally range from 8 to 10 kilometers but may drop to 3 to 5 kilometers in dusty areas.

Satellite images from Sunday morning showed clear skies across most of Iraq, with no large dust storms or extreme weather expected. The agency said conditions will remain clear to partly cloudy across all regions in the coming days, with temperatures steady near seasonal norms.

The Kurdistan Region’s Meteorology and Seismology Directorate forecast rainfall in parts of Duhok Governorate and some areas of Erbil on Sunday. In a Saturday statement, the directorate said, “The rain is expected to begin in the mountainous areas of Duhok and later extend overnight to the city center and some mountainous areas of Erbil Governorate.”
