Man arrested in Karbala for stealing $60,000 from family home during wedding
KARBALA — Karbala police arrested a man accused of stealing $60,000 from his family’s home while they were attending a wedding, authorities said Monday.
The Karbala Police Directorate said in a statement that officers from the Criminal Investigation Department identified and apprehended the suspect following what they described as a “precise intelligence operation.”
According to the statement, the individual took the money while his relatives were away at a family wedding. Police said the suspect confessed during interrogation.
Legal procedures have been initiated, and the case has been referred to the judiciary, the statement said.
Karbala police said their crime-fighting operations are ongoing to protect residents and maintain public security.
In late-September, police in Baghdad’s Al-Hurriya area arrested a young man Tuesday for stealing 15 million Iraqi dinars 9 ($10,597) from his grandmother, according to a statement from the Karkh Police Command.
Authorities said they recovered the stolen amount and have taken legal action, placing the suspect in custody.
