Al-Sudani rings school bell to launch 2025–2026 academic year in Baghdad
BAGHDAD — Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani on Sunday visited Al-Sadrayn Secondary School for Distinguished Students in Sadr City, Baghdad, where he rang the school bell to mark the start of the 2025–2026 academic year.
In remarks during the ceremony, Al-Sudani congratulated students and educators across the country, describing the new school year as “the beginning of a new renaissance in a country witnessing growth, reconstruction, and expanded services.”
He said the government, through the Ministry of Education, is committed to providing the requirements needed for a successful academic year. “The government’s support for teachers and the educational community is not merely a gesture of honor, but a recognition of the central role of educators in society and in the building of the state,” Al-Sudani stated.

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani visited this morning, Sunday, Al-Sadrayn Secondary School for Distinguished Students in Sadr City, east of Baghdad, where he attended the flag-raising ceremony and the recitation of Al-Fatiha in tribute to Iraq’s martyrs, accompanied by the Minister of Education. He then rang the school bell to officially mark the start of the 2025–2026 academic year.
The Prime Minister extended his congratulations to students and the educational community across Iraq on the start of the new school year, describing it as the beginning of a new renaissance in a country witnessing growth, reconstruction, and expanded services, as well as a renewed stage in the process of building the state.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani affirmed that the government, through the Ministry of Education, is committed to providing all requirements to ensure the success of the academic year. He stressed that the government’s support for teachers and the educational community is not merely a gesture of honor, but a recognition of the central role of educators in society and in the building of the state. He further underlined the government’s dedication to advancing major infrastructure projects and strengthening the educational system.
Prime Minister Al-Sudani also called on students to pursue excellence and success, to focus on their studies, listen attentively to their teachers, and engage fully with the curriculum. He emphasized that he meets annually with Iraq’s top-performing students, and will once again host a new group of distinguished achievers at the end of this school year to celebrate and honor their creativity and academic excellence.
