Pledges 'support' for Qatar
Iraq condemns Israeli strike in Doha, calls it violation of Qatari sovereignty
BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday condemned an Israeli strike in Doha that targeted Hamas leaders, calling it a “cowardly act” and a “blatant violation” of Qatari sovereignty.
In a statement, the ministry said the attack “constitutes a threat to [Qatar’s] security and stability” and reflects “the continued policy of systematic killing and displacement pursued by the occupying entity against the Palestinian people.”
The ministry reaffirmed Iraq’s solidarity with Qatar, declaring its “full support in confronting any attacks that undermine its sovereignty or threaten its national security.”
Israel said it carried out a “precise strike” in Doha using accurate intelligence and munitions against senior Hamas leaders, including figures involved in ceasefire negotiations. The strike reportedly hit during a scheduled Hamas leadership meeting. Casualty figures have not yet been confirmed.
Statement from Iraq’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs:
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses the strong condemnation and denunciation of the Republic of Iraq of the Israeli entity’s attack targeting leaders of the Hamas movement in the Qatari capital, Doha, considering it a cowardly act that represents a blatant violation of the sovereignty and territory of the brotherly State of Qatar, and constitutes a threat to its security and stability.
The Ministry affirms that this attack comes in the context of the continued policy of systematic killing and displacement pursued by the occupying entity against the Palestinian people, which exposes regional and international security and peace to further tension and escalation.
In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs renews Iraq’s firm position in standing by the government and people of the brotherly State of Qatar, and its full support in confronting any attacks that undermine its sovereignty or threaten its national security.
The Ministry also stresses the necessity for the international community to assume its responsibilities in putting an end to these aggressive practices.
