Iraqi PM, Omani Sultan meet in Salalah to ‘deepen’ bilateral ties

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani met Wednesday with Oman’s Sultan Haitham bin Tariq in Salalah, where the two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation between Iraq and Oman.

Al-Sudani said Iraq values “the principled and supportive stances consistently demonstrated by our Omani brothers during the various challenges faced by Iraq and the wider region,” according to a statement from his media office.

Sultan Haitham expressed Oman’s “strong interest in further enhancing bilateral relations across all sectors” and confirmed he had instructed ministers to turn signed memorandums of understanding into “concrete frameworks for cooperation and partnership.”

Prime Minister Mohammed S. Al-Sudani met today, Wednesday, with His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq. An official welcoming ceremony was held in his honor at Al-Hosn Palace in the city of Salalah.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Al-Sudani reaffirmed Iraq’s desire to deepen cooperation with the Sultanate of Oman, noting the Iraqi people’s appreciation for the principled and supportive stances consistently demonstrated by their Omani brothers during the various challenges faced by Iraq and the wider region.

The two leaders held an expanded meeting in the presence of the official delegations from both countries, during which they discussed regional developments. Prime Minister Al-Sudani praised the Sultanate’s positions in support of de-escalation, stability, and peaceful resolution of conflicts. The expanded meeting was followed by a bilateral meeting between the Prime Minister and His Majesty the Sultan.

His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tariq expressed Oman’s strong interest in further enhancing bilateral relations across all sectors and affirmed the Sultanate’s openness to fruitful cooperation with Iraq. He noted that he had instructed Omani ministers to translate the signed memorandums of understanding into concrete frameworks for cooperation and partnership.

His Majesty also emphasized his support for Iraq’s role on the regional stage and the government’s efforts to curb the spread of conflict and to promote lasting stability in the region.
