Mosul women’s sewing workshop expands from one machine to a training hub
MOSUL — What began with a single sewing machine has grown into a tailoring workshop run by four women in Mosul’s Rashidiya area, where they now provide free training to women seeking income opportunities.
The founders said the workshop not only provides them with work but has also become a place of support for women across the city, including unemployed graduates and low-income families. Participants learn how to sew clothes, curtains and graduation gowns, as well as embroidery.
“We opened this workshop as a source of income for ourselves, then dedicated part of our time to help families in need by teaching them sewing for free,” founder Um Klishan told 964media.
She said the women launched the project with one sewing machine and now operate three, thanks to persistence and teamwork.
The workshop holds new sessions every two weeks and has become a space for training and collaboration, drawing women from different parts of Mosul.
