Iraq sees continued extreme heat with risk of dust storms in southern and central regions

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Meteorological Authority said Thursday the country is facing stable but extremely hot summer conditions, with clear skies and occasional scattered clouds over the eastern regions and the Kurdistan Region.

Temperatures are expected to remain similar to the previous day, with a slight drop anticipated in some areas, according to the agency’s daily report.

Northwesterly winds will blow at moderate speeds of 20 to 30 kilometers per hour but are expected to intensify during the daytime in central and southern parts of the country. The increased wind activity could trigger dust and sandstorms, particularly in desert areas.

Horizontal visibility is forecast to range between 8 and 10 kilometers across most regions but may fall to between 5 and 7 kilometers in areas affected by rising dust.
