Ministry cites student privacy concerns

Iraqi Ministry of Education bans mobile phone camera use in schools

BAGHDAD, October 26 — Iraq’s Ministry of Education has announced a ban on using mobile phone cameras in schoolyards and classrooms to photograph students and sharing the images on social media platforms.

A statement from the Ministry’s spokesperson Karim Al-Sayyid said:

The Ministry of Education emphasizes its directive to educational and teaching bodies not to use mobile phone cameras inside the school’s premises and classrooms for capturing and sharing candid photos of students on social media platforms, which may subject them to pressure, bullying, and violations of dignity due to such scenes.

Educational and professional responsibility obliges the Ministry to take strict measures to prevent such cases and hold violators accountable in accordance with regulations and laws.
