Kirkuk police arrest 11 suspects accused of assaulting officers outside wedding venue

KIRKUK — Security forces in Kirkuk arrested 11 individuals accused of assaulting a police patrol during a disturbance near a wedding hall, authorities said Friday night.

The incident occurred when officers responded to a fight outside the venue and were attacked by several individuals, according to a statement from the Kirkuk Police Command.

“Kirkuk Police Command units arrested all 11 suspects involved in the assault on the emergency patrol and other units during their response to break up the fight,” the statement said.

The arrests were made less than an hour after the incident as part of a coordinated operation led by Police Commander Lt. Gen. Fattah Mahmoud Yassin Al-Khafaji.

All suspects have been referred to the courts under Article 230 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which covers offenses against public servants. Authorities said a separate legal case will also be filed to ensure, in their words, “they receive fair punishment.”

The command stressed it “will not allow any assault on security personnel” and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining public order.
