Shaqlawa municipality sorts food waste to feed animals and considers recycling plant

SHAQLAWA, October 22 — The municipality of Shaqlawa in northern Erbil is sorting food waste to provide food for animals, and they are also considering the establishment of a recycling plant in the near future.

Municipal teams have distributed plastic containers for collecting food materials in front of homes and restaurants, labeled with the phrase “For Food Waste.”

Rekan Hasani, the Mayor of Shaqlawa, stated for Network 964:

“As a pilot project, we have started segregating garbage in several neighborhoods in the center of the Shaqlawa district. We have allocated containers for food waste and will use them to feed animals. The next stages will involve more separation processes, and we aim to establish a recycling plant to utilize waste in various fields.”
