Second child dies from injuries in Erbil house fire that left five children burned

ERBIL — A five-year-old child who was severely burned in a house fire last week in Qalachoughan village, part of the Seberan subdistrict located about 10 kilometers from the city of Erbil, died Thursday, becoming the second fatality in the incident that left five children injured.

Saeed Hashim, a relative of the children, told 964media, “Today, the second child, who was five years old, passed away. The decision has been made to bury the body in Qalachoughan village.”

The fire occurred on May 7, while the children were playing indoors with foam, which they ignited, causing the flames to spread rapidly. All five children were injured in the blaze.

Hashim had previously told 964media that the children were all from the same extended family and ranged in age from two to eight years old — two girls and three boys.

On Sunday evening, May 11, two of the children were discharged from the hospital, but later that evening, a four-year-old died from their injuries. One child remains hospitalized and is still receiving treatment.
