Sons and brother of Iraqi MP arrested after stabbing in Baqubah café dispute

DIYALA — Security forces in Baqubah arrested the two sons and brother of MP Taha Al-Majma’i on Saturday morning following a violent altercation that left a local resident hospitalized with stab wounds.

The incident took place late Friday night at the Hakaya Café in the Gatoun Al-Rahma neighborhood, after a heated argument broke out over poor public services and local projects associated with the lawmaker. A security source told 964media, “A fight broke out between the sons of MP Taha Al-Majma’i and his brother, and a young man from the neighborhood named Qasim Al-Sheikh.”

According to the source, “The incident began with a sharp discussion about service conditions in the area and the projects linked to the MP. The dispute escalated, and the young man was stabbed by the other side.”

Al-Sheikh was transported to a hospital in critical condition.

Security forces detained the three suspects for questioning at the New Baqubah Police Station, where an investigation is underway.
