'For Better Well-Being'
Erbil race draws runners of all ages in support of healthy lifestyles
ERBIL — Runners of all ages took part in a health-themed race in Erbil on Monday, held under the banner “Running and Health Festival for Better Well-Being,” with organizers aiming to raise awareness about the benefits of regular physical activity.
Participants included men, women, children, and older adults. Among them was 63-year-old Haji Bayz Hussein, who completed nearly two kilometers.
“I didn’t feel tired because this isn’t my first time,” Hussein told 964media. “I used to be a contestant in past races when I was younger, but now I’m older and don’t have the same strength.”
“I’ve participated in other running events,” he added. “As long as we are able, we should prioritize our physical health. We should try to exercise in any way we can — whether it’s running, football, or gymnastics.”
Reving Mahmoud, who took first place in the race, credited daily training for the win.
“Thank God, I’m happy to have taken first place,” Mahmoud said. “Although there were skilled competitors, I train daily, which helped me win. It’s important that people become more aware of their health and exercise regularly. Health is a core part of life.”
Ariyana Yasser, who placed second, said she was proud of her result.
“I believed in myself, which is why I’m very happy with the result,” she said, noting that she regularly exercises and has taken part in other races before.
