Oil tanker catches fire

Blaze destroys seven trucks in Mosul industrial area after crash

NINEVEH — Civil defense teams contained a fire that broke out in the industrial area on the eastern side of Mosul on Sunday, destroying seven vehicles after flames spread from an oil tanker in a nearby garage, authorities said.

Eyewitnesses told 964media, “A traffic accident involving a large truck speeding uncontrollably caused the driver to lose control, leading the truck into a large car yard. Friction between the vehicles caused a major fire.”

Seven large transport trucks were burned, and the fire was extinguished with the help of civil defense, the municipality, and other departments. Authorities said the fire was fully brought under control.

The accident caused heavy damage to the car yard, with seven vehicles completely burned and others sustaining light damage. National power lines were cut, and the incident caused major traffic jams, blocking four main streets at Asadi and Barawi intersections, as well as Industry and Exhibitions streets.

The governor of Nineveh, Abdulqadir al-Dakhil, and members of the governorate council visited the scene to inspect the damage and gather details about the incident.

“All of this is because of the reckless speeding by some drivers who cause accidents in the city,” the governor said. He also promised to install surveillance cameras and escorted affected citizens to the guesthouse on the western side of Mosul.

The Iraqi Civil Defense Directorate said, “Civil defense teams imposed control over a fire that broke out in a truck parking yard in the industrial area on the eastern side of Mosul. They managed to contain the fire quickly and prevented it from spreading with high professionalism and rapid response.”
