Arabian horse race draws 23 riders in Nineveh’s Abu Wajna village

NINEVEH — A race for Arabian horses was held in Abu Wajna village, part of Zummar subdistrict west of Nineveh Governorate, with 23 riders competing over a two-kilometer track before a large crowd.

Saleh Al-Sharabi secured first place, followed by Abu Ahmed Al-Juhaishi in second and Saleh Al-Jubouri in third.

Youssef Ali Elias, one of the event organizers, told 964media that “the race featured strong competition among riders, creating an enthusiastic atmosphere throughout the event.”

Jumaa Jassim, a local community leader, told 964media that this was the second race organized with support from Sheikh Mohammed Al-Farman in Zummar. He called for greater backing to expand such events.

He urged support for organizing races at the governorate level to preserve this traditional heritage and to enable participation in international competitions.
