Two killed, seven injured in traffic accidents near Nasiriyah
DHI QAR — Two people were killed and seven others injured in separate traffic accidents Friday on roads near the city of Nasiriyah, security and traffic sources said.
One person died and three were injured in a crash Friday evening on the road linking Nasiriyah to the town of Bat’ha.
“The accident happened between two vehicles — a Kia Optima and a GAZ Volga — after the driver of the GAZ Volga entered the main road from a side street without checking for oncoming traffic, causing a direct collision,” a security source told 964media.
Emergency crews transferred the deceased to the forensic medicine department and the injured to Nasiriyah Teaching Hospital. Authorities have opened an investigation.
The source said it was the second accident on the same road that day.
In a separate crash earlier the same day, one person died and four others were injured on the international highway west of Nasiriyah near Bat’ha.
A traffic source told 964media, “The accident occurred between a Chevrolet Suburban and a Toyota pickup. The Chevrolet rear-ended the Toyota at high speed, causing the crash.”
The body was transported to the forensic medicine department, and the injured were taken to Nasiriyah Teaching Hospital for treatment. A formal investigation has been launched into the cause of the incident.
