Najaf art festival showcases student works from evening fine arts program

NAJAF — The Palace of Culture in Najaf hosted the second annual art festival for the evening division of the Institute of Fine Arts on Tuesday, featuring student-created visual art, films, and theater performances.

The festival included exhibits in calligraphy, decorative arts, photography, documentary film, and live theater.

Ali Hussein, director of the institute’s training and preparation department, told 964media that nearly 350 students participated, many submitting more than one piece. “We followed directives from the prime minister and minister of education to open evening classes for both males and females, providing opportunities for those unable to attend during the day,” he said.

Mohammed Hamid from the audiovisual department said 55 documentary films were screened across morning and evening sessions. The visual arts section included a mix of naturalistic and symbolic paintings, while the calligraphy and ornamentation department featured submissions from a wide age range.

Organizers noted that students funded their own supplies and prepared the exhibits without external financial support. After the festival, selected works will be preserved for future exhibitions or re-displayed at other events.
