Ensuring children 'feel included'

Duhok organization distributes Eid clothing to 1,200 orphans

DUHOK — The Wardil Organization for Human Development has launched an Eid Al-Fitr campaign to distribute new clothing to orphans in the districts of Akre, Bardarash and Sheikhan.

The initiative, aimed at helping children feel included during the holiday, reached 1,200 orphans in its initial phase.

Eid Al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, is traditionally celebrated with new clothes, festive meals and family gatherings. In the Kurdistan Region, there is also a notable increase in the wearing of traditional Kurdish attire during Eid and national holidays like Newroz.

“Although the number of orphans in these areas is higher, this year we identified and included 1,200 children for Eid clothing support,” said Bewar Ali, head of the organization.

“As an organization, we have volunteer teams that spent several days preparing the clothing, and starting today, we are distributing them,” he said. The goal, Ali added, is to ensure children “feel included during the celebration and not left out.”

Eid Al-Fitr is expected to begin on Sunday or Monday, depending on the sighting of the moon. Iraq has declared a weeklong public holiday for the occasion.
