Owner estimates $60,000 loss
Electrical fault sparks fire, destroys children’s clothing store in Kirkuk
KIRKUK — A fire gutted a children’s clothing store in Kirkuk’s Hasiraka Market Tuesday, with the owner estimating losses of more than $60,000. Initial reports attribute the blaze to an electrical short circuit.
Store owner Aso Ahmed told 964media that an electrical board malfunction sparked the fire, which quickly spread and burned all the clothing inside.
“We had recently stocked the store with clothes for the upcoming Eid Al-Fitr, and everything was lost,” Ahmed said, adding that the damages were purely material, no injuries were reported.
Eid Al-Fitr, which marks the end of Ramadan, prompts retailers to prepare for high demand by stocking up on new clothing. A source from Kirkuk’s Civil Defense Directorate told 964media that firefighters arrived at the scene within minutes but were unable to save any of the goods. Preliminary investigations suggest that an electrical short circuit caused the fire.
