Two suspects arrested after gunfire, grenade attack in kirkuk

KIRKUK — Two suspects were arrested within an hour after a gunfire and grenade attack targeted a house in the Hay Askari neighborhood of Kirkuk late Sunday night, according to police.

Kirkuk police said in a statement that they apprehended the two main suspects involved in the attack. Murad Mustafa, the owner of the targeted house, told 964media, “They threw a grenade at my house and opened fire. I know them, and I know their names. They want my house, which is in another neighborhood, and they are trying to force me to leave by threatening me.”

Mustafa added that five or six attackers, arriving in a Nissan Patrol without license plates, launched the assault. A young child visiting the home at the time was injured, according to information obtained by 964media at the scene.

Police confirmed that the suspects were arrested under Article 430 of the Iraqi Penal Code, which addresses threats and violent intimidation. The law imposes up to seven years in prison for those convicted of making threats involving serious harm, extortion, or coercion, with harsher penalties if weapons or explosives are used. Investigations are ongoing.
