Iraqi F-16 jets destroy ‘terrorist’ hideout in Salah Al-Din

SALAH AL-DIN — Iraqi F-16 fighter jets struck a hideout in the Palkana area of Salah al-Din Governorate Monday, destroying what authorities described as a “terrorist” unit, according to a statement from the Security Media Cell.

“Based on precise intelligence from the heroes of the Military Intelligence Directorate, and under the supervision, planning, and monitoring of the targeting cell in the Joint Operations Command, a terrorist unit was detected inside a hideout in the Palkana sector, east of Salah al-Din,” the statement said.

The airstrike “completely destroyed the hideout,” the statement continued, noting that no details were provided regarding the number of individuals targeted.

The Palkana region, which lies between the security jurisdictions of the Iraqi Army and Peshmerga forces, is frequently the site of joint military and security operations aimed at dismantling ISIS encampments that occasionally attempt to establish footholds.

Iraqi F-16 fighter jets struck an Islamic State hideout in Zagitoun Valley, Kirkuk Governorate on Sunday, and on Saturday, the Iraqi Counter-Terrorism Service, the Kurdish Counter-Terrorism Group, and international coalition forces arrested several wanted individuals during a joint military and intelligence operation.
