Iraqi president emphasizes security and sovereignty in meeting with Iranian ambassador

BAGHDAD, October 11 — President Abdul Latif Rashid emphasized Iraq’s right to protect its security and sovereignty against violations and breaches during his meeting with the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadiq, on Wednesday.

A readout issued by the President’s press office said:

His Excellency, President Dr. Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, received the Iranian Ambassador to Iraq, Mr. Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadiq, today, October 11, 2023, at the Baghdad Palace. The meeting discussed bilateral relations and regional developments.

The President stressed the need for coordination and mutual cooperation on matters of common interest to enhance security, stability, and promote peace opportunities in the region.

He also pointed to the security agreement signed between the two countries and its importance in solidifying the security of their shared borders. He highlighted that the agreement reflects Iraq’s rejection of its territory being used as a launching pad for aggression against neighboring countries. In this regard, he emphasized Iraq’s right to protect its security and sovereignty against violations and breaches, especially in the Kurdistan region.

For his part, Ambassador Mohammad Kazem Al-Sadiq expressed the Islamic Republic’s eagerness to strengthen cooperation and coordination with Iraq across various domains, supporting the security and stability of the Iraqi people.
