Fire breaks out at car accessory stores in Erbil
ERBIL — A fire broke out at an area hosting several car accessory stores on 100 Meter Road in Erbil before being brought under control by local civil defense teams.
Shakhawan Saeed, spokesperson for Erbil Civil Defense, told 964media that initial eyewitness accounts suggest the fire was caused by a kerosene stove catching fire. “Fortunately, there were no casualties, and the damage was limited to one car accessory shop. Our teams managed to contain the fire and prevent it from spreading to adjacent stores,” he said.
Saeed added that a committee will be formed to investigate the cause of the fire and assess the extent of the damage.
In August 2024, a fire erupted at an auto accessories market on 60 Meter Road in Erbil, requiring nearly eight hours of relentless firefighting efforts to bring it under control. Although no casualties were reported, the blaze caused major damage for the market’s infrastructure and inventory at many stores.
These incidents are part of a troubling pattern of fires in Erbil’s bazaars. On April 8, a major fire devastated the Langa Bazaar’s textile and clothing section, resulting in millions of dollars in damages. A subsequent fire on May 5 at the Qaysari Bazaar destroyed over 200 shops.
