Local resident donates land for major water project in Yathrib
SALAH AL-DIN — Abu Ibrahim, a resident of Al-Bu Fayyad in Yathrib, Salah al-Din governorate, has donated 1.2 acres of his own land to facilitate the construction of a long-awaited water project.
The project had been stalled due to a lack of suitable land.
Yathrib’s district director expressed gratitude to Abu Ibrahim for donating legally titled land to the project. Residents of the area have long relied on outdated water systems and pipelines, originally installed in the 1970 s, to access clean water.
The new water station is expected to produce 4,000 cubic meters per hour and will include large sedimentation basins to provide high-purity water. Emergency power lines will also be installed to ensure an uninterrupted supply.
Abu Ibrahim, who previously worked at the old water station, felt a deep sense of responsibility towards his community. His donation marks a turning point, as the project aims to eliminate persistent water shortages in many parts of the district.
Harith Abdul Nabi, Director of Yathrib District, told 964media, “Once we received the prime minister’s approval, we identified this area as the most geographically and technically suitable location for the project. It’s centrally positioned and will supply water to all areas of Yathrib.”
He praised Abu Ibrahim’s contribution saying, “he was positive and cooperative, donating part of his legally owned land. As someone with work experience in water management and a respected social and tribal figure, he understands the importance of this project. His selfless gesture serves the public interest, and I extend my heartfelt gratitude.”
Abu Ibrahim Al-Hashmawi, the land donor, shared his perspective with 964media,“I donated 1.2 acres to the Yathrib Water Center for the construction of the new station due to the severe shortage of drinking water in many areas. I previously worked at the old station, which was established in 1975, and when officials requested land for the new project, I willingly donated this unused agricultural space.”
