Kurdistan Region deputy police chief dies in car crash

ERBIL — Brig. Gen. Farhad Mohammed, deputy director general of the Kurdistan Regional Police, died in a severe crash on the Koya-Erbil road near the village of Gomashin on Friday afternoon.

Azad Fattah, Deputy Director of Shaheed Dr. Khalid Hospital, told 964media that the accident occurred around 3:20 p.m, “despite immediate efforts to provide medical assistance, Brigadier General Mohammed had already passed away by the time he was brought to the hospital.”

Fattah added, “We spent nearly 40 minutes attempting CPR and other life-saving measures, but unfortunately, they were unsuccessful. His body was later transferred to the forensic medical department in Koya.”

Efforts by 964media to contact the Koya Traffic Directorate for additional details about the crash were unsuccessful.

Traffic accidents remain a persistent issue in the Kurdistan Region, with authorities urging drivers to adhere to road safety measures to prevent further tragedies. Investigations into the circumstances surrounding Brigadier General Mohammed’s accident are ongoing.
