Al-Qaim border crossing opens for Iraqis returning from Syria
AL-QAIM — The Al-Qaim border crossing between Iraq and Syria reopened on Tuesday for Iraqi nationals stranded in Syria, provided they hold valid identification documents.
This development follows the end of the Al-Assad family’s 53-year rule in Syria, with the regime of Bashar Al-Assad collapsing days ago. Armed groups have reached Damascus, and Syrian government soldiers surrendered the capital without resistance.
Al-Qaim is a town in western Iraq’s Anbar Province, situated along the Euphrates River near the Syrian border. The town faces Al-Bukamal in Syria’s Deir ez-Zor Governorate, with the Al-Qaim border crossing serving as a key passage for travelers and goods between the two countries.
