Ponit-to-point speed cameras activated on Tasluja-Chamchamal Road
SULAYMANIYAH — Drivers on the Tasluja-Chamchamal road are now required to adhere strictly to speed limits as newly installed point-to-point speed cameras began operation today, Wednesday. These cameras, which record speed violations, are fully functional following the completion of a testing phase.
Aso Mohammed, director of Sulaymaniyah Traffic Police, told 964media, “As of this afternoon, all 28 speed cameras on the Tasluja-Chamchamal road are operational.”
Point-to-point speed – or average speed – cameras monitor vehicles by calculating the time taken to travel between two locations, typically three to four kilometers apart. If a vehicle reaches the second camera in less time than allowed by the speed limit, a fine is automatically issued. This system is designed to deter drivers from speeding between traditional fixed cameras and only slowing down as they approach them.
The maximum speed on the Tasluja-Chamchamal road is set at 100 km/h, except within the Tekye town, where the limit drops to 60 km/h.
The Tasluja-Chamchamal route is monitored by 28 speed cameras placed along both sides of the road, with 14 cameras installed in each direction. The monitoring starts near the Tasluja checkpoint and ends at the Bani Maqan checkpoint.
On May 29, 2023, point-to-point speed cameras were activated for the first time on the Sulaymaniyah-Dukan road.
