Najaf police arrest father, stepmother under suspicion of torturing six-year-old girl

NAJAF — Domestic Violence Police in Najaf arrested a father and his wife on Friday for allegedly torturing a six-year-old girl, authorities confirmed.

In a statement, Najaf Police said, “After breaking her arm and scalding parts of her body with hot water, Domestic Violence Police arrested a father and his wife for the torture of a six-year-old girl.”

The case surfaced after a tip was received through the domestic violence hotline (104). Officers responded swiftly, escorting the victim to the Domestic Violence Department, where they discovered evidence of severe abuse inflicted by her father and stepmother.

Najaf Police Chief Maj. Gen. Alaa Jaber Hashem ordered immediate action, and the suspects were arrested under the supervision of the Family and Child Protection Unit after securing judicial approval.

“Such crimes will not be tolerated,” the statement emphasized. “Anyone who tortures or terrifies children will be held accountable. Najaf Police will remain vigilant against such heinous acts.”

The girl is currently receiving care from relevant authorities as investigations continue.
