ALQOSH — A late-night car crash near the village of Boza in Nineveh’s Alqosh sub-district claimed two lives and left two others injured on Tuesday. The incident occurred at approximately 10 p.m. when a pickup truck overturned, veering off the road.
The two fatalities, both men aged between 25 and 30, were residents of Sharya camp in Duhok’s Semel district. Their bodies were transported to the forensic medicine department in Duhok, according to local authorities.
Haisam Barbahari, spokesperson for the 122 Emergency Health Center in Duhok, told 964media that four individuals were involved in the crash. “One person died at the scene, and another succumbed to their injuries while being transported to the hospital,” Barbahari said. The two injured victims are currently receiving treatment at Azadi Public Hospital under medical supervision.
Traffic accidents remain a persistent issue across Iraq. The country’s Ministry of Planning reported 3,019 fatalities from road incidents in 2023, excluding the Kurdistan Region, with 79% attributed to driver error. Additionally, 12,314 injuries were recorded last year, a slight decline from the 12,677 reported in 2022. Other factors contributing to these accidents include mechanical failures, poor road conditions, and unsafe pedestrian behavior.
