Excessive speed blamed
Maysan crash kills truck driver, injures 12 on road under repair
MAYSAN — A truck driver was killed, and 12 others were injured in a multi-vehicle crash on Monday on the road connecting Al-Majar Al-Kabir district to Amarah, the capital of Maysan governorate. Authorities attributed the incident to high speed and failure to heed warnings about ongoing road repairs.
Heman Al-Waeli, media director for Maysan Traffic Police, described the scene to 964media: “A horrific traffic crash occurred on the road linking Al-Majar Al-Kabir district and Amarah. The collision involved a Hyundai Starex and a Mercedes truck, both traveling at excessive speed.”
Al-Waeli said the truck burst into flames upon impact, killing its driver instantly, while dozens narrowly escaped the crash. “The incident was caused by excessive speed and failure to notice ongoing road repairs on the stretch between the city center and Al-Majar Al-Kabir district,” he added.
Emergency responders transported the 12 injured individuals, most of whom sustained minor injuries, to Al-Zahrawi Surgical Hospital for treatment. The truck driver’s body was sent to the forensic department, awaiting release to his family.
