U.S. charity organization renovates pedestrian tunnels in Erbil

ERBIL, September 26 — An American charitable organization, LDS Charities, has renovated two pedestrian tunnels in Erbil to help improve traffic flow, allow for road and sidewalk repairs, facilitate the movement of drivers and pedestrians, and beautify public streets in the Kurdistan region. 

The Erbil Governorate issued a statement regarding the project, which was carried out at a cost of $24,000.

The statement further said:

As part of the efforts to develop and organize traffic in the city, repair roads and sidewalks, facilitate the movement of drivers and pedestrians, and beautify public streets in the Kurdistan region, LDS, in coordination with the Joint Crisis Coordination Center of Erbil Governorate, implemented a project to clean and renovate pedestrian tunnels near the College of Sciences and close to Rizgari Hospital.

The project also included cleaning and replacing the outer layer of the passages, replacing tiles, painting, installing doors and windows, providing solar-powered electricity and tunnel lighting, as well as installing surveillance camera systems.
