Gunmen injure three security personnel and civilian near Sulaymaniyah police station

SULAYMANIYAH – Three security personnel and a civilian were injured after gunmen opened fire near the Kurdsat Police Station in Sulaimaniyah on Thursday morning, according to a statement from the Sulaymaniyah Police Directorate.

The incident occurred around 10:50 a.m., when gunmen approached the station in a vehicle and fired multiple shots, injuring four people. A security source told 964media that the shooting may have been related to a personal dispute between the parties involved.

“The confrontation between two groups escalated into violence near the police station, resulting in injuries to an officer, two police personnel, and a civilian,” the Sulaymaniyah Police Directorate said in its statement.

“All suspects were arrested following an operation led by the Sulaymaniyah Police Directorate and the Kurdistan Regional Security Service,” the statement added.

The civilian, who sustained critical injuries, is currently undergoing surgery, and remains in critical condition, according to a health source.

Investigations into the incident are ongoing, with the suspects in custody under court order. Attempts to reach Sulaymaniyah police spokesperson Sarkaut Ahmed for further comment were unsuccessful.
