Hard-fought election comes to a close
Polls close for 2024 Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections with reports of higher turnout
ERBIL – Polls officially closed at 6 p.m. today across the Kurdistan Region, marking the end of voting in the region’s sixth parliamentary elections. The Independent High Electoral Commission confirmed that all polling devices automatically shut down at the designated time, signaling the conclusion of the voting process.
With voting complete, attention now turns to the counting of votes and the release of preliminary results, which are expected within the next 24 hours. Counts at polling stations region-wide will trickle in throughout the night, giving a clearer picture of the state of play as the hours pass.
Automated polling devices will generate detailed reports of the votes cast for each ballot box, which will be provided to party representatives, journalists, and both local and international observers. Following this, the commission will conduct a manual vote count to verify accuracy.
