'Etiquette and political discourse'
Political Science Association in Najaf hosts workshop on political communication, dialogue skills
NAJAF – The Iraqi Political Science Association in Najaf launched a three-day training workshop on Sunday titled “Etiquette and Political Discourse,” aimed at enhancing communication and dialogue skills for political activists. The workshop is led by Hassanein Al-Sheikh, an advisor from the Foreign Ministry, and professors specializing in political science.
Mohammed Yass, head of the Political Science Department at the Al-Almeen Institute, commented on Iraq’s historical strength in dialogue and communication.
“Iraqi society has historically excelled in dialogue and communication. However, technological advancements have significantly impacted these interactions,” Yass said.
He added that many traditional aspects of communication, including eye contact, have diminished, affecting interactions within families, society, and government institutions.
While Iraqi intellectuals maintain a high standard of discourse, Yass acknowledged a variance in communication skills among politicians. “Some politicians excel in communication, while others lack even basic skills,” he noted.
Salah Annoz, a member of the Iraqi Political Science Association, explained the workshop’s goals, stating, “This workshop is part of the association’s efforts to equip political figures with the necessary tools to enter the political arena professionally.”
Annoz emphasized that the training focuses on etiquette and communication fundamentals for political work.
“We are also working to attract political science students, support them, and help facilitate any academic challenges they may face,” Annoz added.
