Man arrested in Duhok after allegedly threatening civilians with grenades near overpass

DUHOK — A man was arrested in Duhok after threatening civilians with a grenade near the Nizarke overpass, the Duhok Security Directorate reported. The incident, which occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Friday, sparked widespread panic among the public.

According to the directorate, the suspect had blocked the main road and was in possession of two grenades. “He had already detonated one and was preparing to throw the second at passing vehicles when security forces intervened,” the statement said.

“Drivers and passengers abandoned their vehicles and fled the area,” the directorate added.

The arrest was made by two off-duty security officers who were on their way home but quickly acted upon encountering the scene. They managed to disarm and detain the suspect, preventing further danger. “The prompt and brave actions of our officers averted a potentially dangerous situation,” the statement read.

The suspect is in custody, and an investigation is ongoing.
