Three killed, four injured in separate traffic incidents in in Kirkuk
KIRKUK — Three people were killed and four others injured in two separate traffic incidents in Kirkuk on Saturday evening, local officials said. All the victims were taken to a hospital for treatment.
In the first incident, a young man was struck and killed by a car on the Kirkuk-Altun Kupri Road, according to eyewitness Ali Kamal, who spoke to 964media. The vehicle, identified as a black Kia, fled the scene, and the driver remains at large.
In a separate accident, two people were killed and four others injured in a collision involving four vehicles in the Shorawa neighborhood of Kirkuk. Saman Yaba, head of public relations at Kirkuk’s Health Department, told 964media that all those affected by the accidents were transferred to Kirkuk Hospital for treatment.
Nationally, Iraq reported over 3,262 traffic fatalities in 2023, excluding the Kurdistan Region, according to the Ministry of Planning. Driver error accounted for 56.4% of these crashes, with other contributing factors including vehicle issues, road conditions, and pedestrian behavior.
