Worker electrocuted while working on power line in Halabja

HALABJA — A worker was electrocuted while working on a power line in Khurmal District at Halabja Governorate, on Wednesday, local authorities reported.

The victim, identified as Beway Ahmad Ismail, a resident of the village of Ahmadawa in Khurmal District, was electrocuted while attempting to connect an electrical cable. The incident occurred at around 11 a.m. on Ardalan Street in Khurmal, according to Barzan Othman, a spokesperson for Halabja police.

“The body has been transferred to the Halabja Forensic Medicine Department, and an investigation into the incident is underway,” Othman said.

Ismail, 48, was a married father of five.

From January to April 28, 2024, the Kurdistan Construction Workers’ Organization documented 19 worker deaths in the Kurdistan Region, including one additional fatality in the Kirkuk governorate. In Erbil alone, the count reached nine. The fatalities included eight in Sulaymaniyah and two in Duhok.
