Duhok flood victim’s body recovered after nine days of civil defense search

DUHOK — Civil defense teams said on Thursday they had recovered the body of one of two individuals missing after flash floods ravaged Duhok governorate on March 19. The victim, identified as a man between 30 and 40 years old, was found in the Girda Sor area of central Duhok after nine days of searching.

Civil defense spokesperson Bewar Abdulaziz told 964media that teams were able to locate one of the victims, whose remains are currently undergoing examination after days submerged in mud and debris.

Abdulaziz added that search operations are ongoing for the second missing individual, with teams extending their efforts to the Mosul Dam area. Authorities hope to recover the body as soon as possible.

The March 19 floods, which also impacted Zakho district, resulted in the loss of life and caused significant material damage to vehicles, homes, and neighborhoods across the region.
