Nasiriyah hosts collective wedding for 80 couples

NASIRIYAH — In an effort to support young Iraqis, a collective wedding for 80 couples was celebrated in Nasiriyah on Friday, highlighting a key initiative by Prime Minister Mohammed Shia Al-Sudani.

The event, held at the Al-Sheibani hall in the city center, is part of a broader government effort to aid the younger generation in establishing their new families.

Abbas Al-Taie, who is in charge of Al-Sudani’s initiative, told 964media, “The mass wedding initiative […] was launched in Maysan and then in Nasiriyah.”

The ceremony included the distribution of gifts and financial assistance to the couples. “Each pair was gifted 500,000 Iraqi dinars, a bedroom wood furniture pack with accessories, among other items. Our initiative aims to promote values of cooperation, generosity, and tolerance, inspired by the principle,” explained Al-Taie.

Targeting young workers with limited income but capable of supporting a family, the initiative seeks to alleviate the financial burdens of marriage. “We have fulfilled their dreams and those of their families today,” Al-Taie noted, highlighting the government’s commitment to facilitating the start of young couples’ marital lives.
