Police praise villagers' initiative
Sulaymaniyah village bans hunting within its jurisdiction
SHARBAZHER — Residents of Khamza village in Sulaymaniyah’s Sitak sub-district have implemented a ban on animal hunting within their jurisdiction, warning violators of legal consequences.
The action aligns with existing regulations across Sulaymaniyah governorate, according to local authorities.
Villagers have repeatedly appealed for an end to hunting within their boundaries, citing continued disregard for their concerns and persistent activities by outsiders. “We will no longer accept anyone coming into our territory for hunting,” declared residents. “This is our last warning.”
Hemn Kamerkhan, spokesperson for the Sulaymaniyah Forest and Environment Police, commended Khamza’s initiative, emphasizing the existing governorate-wide ban. “Hunting persists on the outskirts of Sulaymaniyah villages, especially in Khamza,” he acknowledged.
Since the year’s start, authorities have recorded numerous hunting incidents involving livestock and birds in the Sulaymaniyah area, with statistics released every six months. A number of violators have been apprehended and detained by the courts, Kamerkhan noted.
