Interior minister hails security for key Shia pilgrimage

BAGHDAD — Interior Minister Abdul Amir Al-Shammari today announced the effective execution of the security strategy for the pilgrimage marking Imam Kadhim’s martyrdom.

Imam Musa Al-Kadhim, the seventh Shiite Imam, whose martyrdom in 799 AD by suspected poisoning in Baghdad is a significant event in Shiite Islam.

The annual pilgrimage draws thousands to the Al-Kadhimiyah Mosque to honor Imam Kadhim and his grandson, Imam Muhammad Al-Jawad, emphasizing devotion and the Shiite identity.

Al-Shammari praised the seamless cooperation among security forces and government bodies, ensuring the safety of participants in this key religious and cultural observance.

For several days, substantial efforts have been dedicated to ensuring the successful observance of Imam Musa al-Kadhim’s commemoration, peace be upon him. This included the deployment of security forces of various branches and specialties, operating in close coordination with government bodies and auxiliary organizations, as directed by the Supreme Security Committee for safeguarding the Rajab pilgrimage.

The security agencies have once again demonstrated their commitment to securing large-scale events, tirelessly working around the clock to facilitate the pilgrimage to the shrines of the two Imams, peace be upon them.

We laud the exemplary conduct of our security forces, who have tirelessly worked to facilitate the completion of the visitation rites, fostering an atmosphere of constructive collaboration, as observed by our esteemed citizens and the visitors of Iraq.

I express my gratitude and appreciation to the security personnel involved in the plan for Imam Musa ibn Jaafar’s visit, peace be upon him, on the anniversary of his martyrdom. I also extend congratulations to all security units on the successful implementation of the security strategy and the maintenance of peace and security for the pilgrims without any disturbances.

I commend the significant efforts of the Holy Kadhimain Shrine and the organizers of the processions for their seamless cooperation with security forces to ensure the well-being of the pilgrims.
