Despite supply shortages

Hiwa cancer hospital reports 900 daily patient visits

SULAYMANIYAH, January 25 — Hiwa Hospital, a cancer treatment center located in Sulaymaniyah city, sees as many as 900 patients each day, according to the facility’s director.

Director Yad Naqshbandi said the hospital remains committed to delivering the best care possible to its patients, despite ongoing crises and medicine shortages.

Highlighting the significance of early cancer detection, Naqishbandi explained that late diagnosis can have financial implications.

“If breast cancer is diagnosed in stages one and two, the monthly cost of medication is 60,000 dinars. However, at stages three and four, the monthly cost skyrockets to $6,000,” he said.

Despite its challenges, the hospital aims to provide medication free of charge, Naqishbandi added, with ambitions to exceed standards of care in countries with health insurance where such expensive medicines may not be covered.
