Iraq forecasts temperature drop in coming days

BAGHDAD — Iraq’s Meteorological Organization on Friday forecast a drop in temperatures across parts of the country in the coming days.

The organization said Saturday will be generally clear to partly cloudy, with a chance of rain in some parts of the Kurdistan Region. Temperatures will remain close to Friday’s levels nationwide.

Forecast highs for Saturday are 39 C in Sulaymaniyah, 40 C in Duhok, 42 C in Erbil, 45 C in Nineveh and Anbar, 46 C in Kirkuk and Salah Al-Din, and 47 C in Baghdad, Diyala and Babil.

Temperatures are expected to reach 48 C in Karbala, Wasit, Najaf and Diwaniyah, 49 C in Basra, 50 C in Muthanna and Maysan, and 51 C in Dhi Qar.

On Sunday, skies will be clear with some clouds and a chance of light rain showers in eastern parts of the northern region. Light to moderate southwesterly winds will strengthen during the day in central and northern Iraq, reaching 30 kilometers per hour and raising light dust.

Temperatures will fall slightly Sunday in central and northern areas while remaining close to Saturday’s levels in the south, according to the organization.

The organization forecast generally clear weather Monday, with temperatures falling by several degrees from the previous day.

Clear weather is expected nationwide Tuesday. Temperatures will remain close to Monday’s levels in central and northern areas and fall slightly in the southern region.
